Frequently Asked Questions
What areas does Portland Mobile Notary NW serve?
We serve Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington County, including
Portland, Gresham, Clackamas, Milwaukie, Gladstone, Oregon City, Lake
Oswego, Tigard, Beaverton, Happy Valley, and Damascus. We travel up to
a 50 mile radius for emergency notarization at hospitals, care
centers, homes, or offices.
What are your travel fees?
We charge a $75.00 travel fee for 15 miles ($1.24 per additional
mile). Each notarization act is $10.00. Weekends, after hours, and
holidays add $10.00. Printing, scanning, and mailing is an extra
$25.00. A $5.00 fee applies if you pay by credit card.
Do you offer emergency or same-day notarization?
Yes, we offer same-day emergency notarization services 7 days a week,
9am to 5pm. Our mobile notary comes to your location wherever you are.
What type of ID is acceptable for notarization?
Acceptable ID includes a current DMV-issued driver's license or ID
card, US passport or US passport card, US military ID, tribal ID,
official passport of a foreign country, or corrections ID. Unless
incarcerated, we need a photo ID.
What if I don't have ID, or my ID is outdated for more than 3 years?
The notary can identify you if they have known you personally for a
long time, or a trusted person who personally knows you can swear to
your identity in front of the notary. They must present their own
valid photo ID.
What do I do if my document does not come with a notarial certificate?
If your document does not come with a notarial certificate (a section
with wording for the notary to sign and stamp), don't worry — we can
attach a compliant certificate for you. Because notaries are legally
prohibited from choosing the type of notarization, please confirm with
your receiving agency whether you require an
Acknowledgment or a Jurat, and
inform us of your choice.
Can you notarize documents at hospitals and care centers?
Yes, the elderly are our specialty. We frequently provide bedside
notarization at hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities,
and hospice care centers for powers of attorney, healthcare
directives, living wills, and more. We also offer jail notarizations.
Do you handle loan signings and real estate documents?
Yes, we are certified loan signing agents. We handle home purchases,
sales, refinances, HELOCs, reverse mortgages, and loan modifications —
printing, witnessing, and rapidly returning your completed package.
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We have a flat fee with no extra charges. Many Notaries have hidden charges for mileage and time spent on the appointment; we don’t.
$75.00 travel fee
Weekends, after hours/holidays: add $10.00
$10 per notarization act
Printing, scanning and mailing an extra $25.00
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We complete an intake sheet and then schedule the appointment. At the appointment, we walk you through each step, verify your identity, and patiently answer any questions you may have. We complete the notarization, apply our seal, and make sure you leave with properly executed documents and peace of mind.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We are all Notaries and Loan Signing Agents. We all have advanced degrees and take classes once a year to keep current on the latest Notary laws.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
We started working in an assisted living facility and the demand became so much that it quickly became a full time business with 5 employees.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We help with wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and medical directives – documents that provide peace of mind and protection for loved ones. We frequently get called to hospitals and care centers, and understand the unique needs and sensitivities required when assisting older clients with their important documents. Our mobile service is particularly valuable for those with limited mobility or prefer to handle their notarizations in a comfortable, familiar setting.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We have gotten to know several of our customers. They sometimes end up becoming our friends. One older woman in particular is a repeat customer, whose husband was dying and needed help with his POA, Health Directive and his will. I picked her up at her house for her third appointment with me and we drove to the hospital together. I am particularly fond of the memory of her arm linked in mine, as we navigated the hospital hallways to her husband’s bedside. We may very likely continue to be friends in the years to come.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Choose someone who is experienced with your specific type of document and communicates professionally. Make sure they clearly explain their fees, and answer any questions you may have up front.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Tell your notary what type of document needs to be notarized, and where you prefer to handle the signing - at your location or at a location near them. Next, when would you like to schedule? Do you have all required documents and valid government-issued ID ready? This prevents delays and ensures a smooth process. Finally, check how many signatures or documents need to be notarized? This helps determine the time needed and the total cost.
